A Career Defined by Triumph:
Jenks rose to fame as a key player in the White Sox’s 2005 World Series win, saving four games during the postseason and securing the final out in the championship sweep against the Houston Astros . Over his seven-year MLB career, he amassed 173 saves (second-most in White Sox history) and tied a reliever record by retiring 41 consecutive batters in 2007 . After retiring in 2011, Jenks transitioned to coaching, leading the independent league Windy City ThunderBolts and earning Pioneer League Manager of the Year honors in 2022 .
Health Crisis and Diagnosis:
Jenks cancer identified as adenocarcinoma began in his stomach lining and has spread to his bones lower back and hips. The tumor ruptured causing internal bleeding and severe complications. His diagnosis followed months of unexplained fatigue and blood clot treatments after moving to Portugal in October 2024 to be near his wife’s family. He is currently undergoing a second round of radiation and chemotherapy to shrink the tumor though his prognosis remains uncertain.
Personal Losses and Resilience:
Amid his health battle Jenks lost nearly all his belongings including irreplaceable baseball memorabilia in the Pacific Palisades wildfires earlier this year. Only his 2005 World Series ring survived . I have got one suitcase left to my name. Its all gone he said underscoring the emotional toll of the disaster. He admitted his earlier lifestyle choice heavy drinking & poor health habits. “ No normal man would have survived the shit I was doing in 20s”, he remarked, urging others to prioritize and self care.
Jenks also candidly addressed his past struggles with substance abuse and a botched 2011 back surgery that derailed his career.
